SaltBlock is a trail-camera network for hunters. The whole thing works because members trust that a photo never gives away a spot. This page says exactly what the app keeps, what it never keeps, and who else touches it.
The one rule
Other members see the county a photo came from. Never a pin, never coordinates, never a road. The app does not read your phone's location at all. If you choose to drop a pin on your own map, that pin is stored for you alone and is never shown to anyone else.
What we keep
- Account. Your email address, a password hash, and the call sign you pick. Your real name is never required.
- Home county. The county you hunt most. It is the only place the app ties to you, and it is as precise as it gets.
- Photos and video you upload. The image, the time the camera stamped on it, and the county you file it under. GPS data inside an uploaded photo is read on your phone to find the county, and is stripped before the file is stored.
- Your own pins and hunt records. Stand locations, camera spots, and your hunt journal (dates, conditions, sightings). These are private to your account. No other member, and no admin screen, can read them.
- Activity. Who you follow, your votes and comments on the board, messages you send other members, and the bucks you file.
- Push token. If you turn notifications on, the device token Apple or Google issues so we can deliver them. Turn them off in Settings and the token is deleted.
What we never keep
- Your phone's live location. The app never asks for it.
- Your contacts, calendar, or anything else on the device.
- The photo you take to prove you are in the stand. It is checked and discarded. It is not stored and not shown to anyone.
- Advertising identifiers. There are no ads and no ad tracking.
Who else touches it
We run on a small set of services, each for one job. None of them are allowed to use your data for their own purposes.
- Supabase hosts the database, file storage, and sign-in.
- Open-Meteo supplies weather. Before any request leaves your phone, coordinates are rounded to about a mile, so the weather service never sees an exact spot.
- Google Maps draws the map. Google receives the map tiles you look at, not your pins.
- Anthropic checks the stand-proof photo for one thing: whether it was taken outdoors. Location data is stripped first. The photo is not retained.
- Expo relays push notifications to Apple and Google.
We do not sell data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Your controls
- Delete any photo, pin, record, or message you made, any time.
- Set each kind of notification on or off in Settings.
- Delete your account from Settings. Your profile, uploads, pins, records, and messages are removed. Backups age out within 30 days.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to delete it, by writing to the address below.
Age
SaltBlock is for members 17 and older.
